Jetstar has received approval to expand its code share arrangement with Japan Airlines (JAL) on two of its future services on the Australia - Japan route.
An extension of Jetstar’s existing code share arrangement with Japan Airlines will occur for future Osaka-Gold Coast-(Sydney)* and Tokyo (Narita) – Cairns* services, extending its partner airline relationship which first commenced in May-07 on the Sydney-Osaka-Brisbane route.
Selling will commence from 25-Sep-08.
Jetstar’s code share arrangement with Japan Airlines remains on its daily Sydney-Osaka-Brisbane A330-200 service which reverts to the Osaka-Gold Coast-(Sydney)* route from 01-Oct-08.
Jetstar’s new Osaka-Gold Coast* service will operate daily, with a tag service to Sydney five times a week. The value based carrier will similarly offer a daily two-class A330 service on the Tokyo (Narita) – Cairns* route, replacing Qantas, from 18-Dec-08.
Jetstar Group General Manager Commercial Bruce Buchanan said the expansion by Jetstar of its partner airline relationship with Japan Airlines on the Australia – Japan route was timely given its future status as the largest Qantas Group airline serving the Japanese international market.
Mr Buchanan said, “In December Jetstar will be operating highly competitive two class services between Australia and Japan 19 times weekly and deliver a more sustainable product for the Qantas Group to support the Japanese tourism export market to Australia, and in particular to Queensland.”
“Jetstar continues to view positively this code share arrangement and the working partnership we have established with Japan Airlines on the Australia-Japan route. The arrangement significantly leverages and grows the existing sales and distribution footprint for these services in Japan, supported by the strength of Japan Airlines’ distribution capability in-market.
“In today’s increasingly competitive quest for the travel dollar and in particular those of Japanese consumers, the importance of this relationship should not be understated.
“The arrangement will deliver improved access to Australia by Japanese consumers as it will provide wholesalers and travel agents in Japan with another booking option when selling Australia – in particular through Jetstar’s renewed focus in developing direct flights to the Gold Coast from Japan.
Mr Buchanan said, “For Australian suppliers who are discovering a growing desire by Australians to visit Japan, the Jetstar – Japan Airlines code share on additional Jetstar routes to Japan also delivers a more seamless proposition for the Australian outbound market to Japan when considering travel beyond Osaka to Korea, China and other regions in Japan.”
