Spirit President becomes new CEO
Spirit Airlines announced (23-May-06) the appointment of Ben Baldanza, currently the President, as its new CEO, effective immediately

Mr Baldanza will replace Jacob Schorr, who will retire but remain as Chairman. Spirit is implementing a USD2.0 billion fleet replacement programme, expected to be completed by Sep-06, moving from MD-80s to new Airbus A320 family aircraft.

Spirit operates 18 A319s, six A321s and seven MD-80s. The carrier will take delivery of seven more A319s in 2006. Meanwhile, Spirit launched Detroit-San Francisco service on 25-May-06.
