The fifteen year contract is Lufthansa Technik’s largest engine service assignment in Scandinavia to date and the first major order for the new engine overhaul center currently under construction in Hamburg. With the new facility, Lufthansa Technik can shorten the engine processing times and expands its engine overhaul capacity from 320 to more than 400 engines per year.
Lufthansa Technik and Norwegian Air Shuttle are having a close business connection for more than a year now. It signed an agreement for Total Component Support TCS for its Boeing 737-Classic fleet with Lufthansa Technik in Aug-07, followed by a wheels and brakes support for the whole future 737 fleet of 81 aircraft in Feb-08.
Bjorn Kjos, Chief Executing Officer of Norwegian Air Shuttle during the signing ceremony held in Oslo said, “We are very happy to further extend the successful partnership with Lufthansa Technik. Our German partner has done an outstanding job so far and we are happy that we can trust in Lufthansa Technik’s reliable services during our future expansion.”
Dr. Burkhard Andrich, Head of Lufthansa Technik’s Engine Services Division said, “Our new engine support center in Hamburg is set up following the most modern standards. Last but not least, these efforts result in shortened processing times for our customers. Norwegian Air Shuttle can fully rely on the quality of the world´s largest manufacturer-independent provider of engine MRO services.”
