Despite difficult trading conditions and the broader economic environment impacting on the aviation sector, Virgin Blue’s services will commence in time for the peak tourist and convention season. The commencement of these services is a great vote of confidence in the Top End business and tourist markets.
CEO of Darwin International Airport. Ian Kew explained “In the current environment the addition of close to 250,000 domestic seats by Virgin Blue is welcome news” Virgin Blue services will effectively double the non-stop seat capacity between Darwin and Perth, and we will also have two airlines offering services on the Melbourne-Darwin sector.
We continue to work closely with all our airline partners to ensure long term and sustainable growth in air services to the Northern Territory.”
Virgin Blue’s new services will provide travellers to Darwin with unprecedented choice of flight times. Flights from Darwin to Melbourne depart at 6.15pm, arriving into Melbourne at 10.55pm. With existing services, passengers will have the choice of midnight, early morning and late afternoon departures from Darwin to Melbourne. Flights to Perth will depart 7am, arriving into Perth at 9.20am. The return services will depart Perth at 11.05am, arriving into Darwin at 4.25pm.
