The new agreement ensures that Swissport will continue to provide ground handling services for easyJet’s Basel-based network of around 150 flights a week. The airline, which is Europe’s leading low-fare airline, has undergone massive expansion over the past few years, and has developed Basel into a base operation with over 20 flights a day to 18 destinations.
“Working with Swissport has been a very positive experience so far,” says Jean-Marc Thévenaz, easyJet’s Managing Director Switzerland. “And it’s our favourable collaboration to date – in Basel and Geneva and at other European locations – that has encouraged us to continue to put our faith in Swissport quality by extending our present Basel agreement.”
Stefan Resele, Senior Vice President Swissport Basel, is equally pleased: “I am delighted that, with our impeccable value-for-money services, we have earned easyJet’s continued custom. Our new agreement enables us to secure a significant volume of business, along with the associated jobs.”
Low fares airlines remain extremely popular with customers, as is evidenced by the above-average growth rates that the sector continues to record. Present estimates suggest that one-third of all passengers in Europe will be travelling on a low-fare airline by 2010.
