The news follows the announcement that Wizz Air, the largest low fare - low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe announced at a press conference in Wroclaw that it would establish its 12th operating base in Wroclaw in July 2010.
Chris Harcombe, Aviation Development Manager for Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, said: “This is a welcome boost for the airport and we are delighted that Wizz Air have further strengthened their relationship with Doncaster Sheffield Airport by reintroducing flights to Wroclaw.
“These flights will start from July 19 2010 and add to our already impressive offering to Poland.
“We are continuing to work with Wizz and our other operators to develop our relationship and look at ways to offer more routes and extra flights to attract passengers to Doncaster.”
In the last three years, Wizz Air has offered affordable flights from the Airport to Gdansk, Katowice, Poznan, and Warsaw in Poland with well over 300,000 passengers using these routes.
“Wroclaw will become our fifth base in Poland and Doncaster Sheffield Airport is an important destination from here for us, reinforcing our commitment to the largest market in Wizz Air’s network as well as our leadership on the Polish market. With this move we will further enhance the travel opportunities for millions of Poles in the West of Poland, create hundreds of local jobs in Wroclaw and significant revenue uplift for the tourism industry in the region.” – said John Stephenson, Executive Vice-President of Wizz Air.
