Tiger Airways celebrates inaugural Sydney †Gold Coast flight
New Sydney-Gold Coast route commences 15-Dec-2009

Tiger Airways tomorrow celebrates the inaugural Sydney – Gold Coast flight departing Sydney Airport at 8:45am and arriving into Gold Coast Airport at 9:10am.

The first five customers to check into the Sydney – Gold Coast flight tomorrow morning will win a double pass to Dreamworld and the opportunity to come within metres of a 180kg magnificent Bengal Tiger at the theme park’s Tiger Island precinct on the Gold Coast.

Tiger Airways Communications Manager, Vanessa Regan, says that sales on all routes in and out of the Gold Coast are incredibly popular, especially at this time of year.

“Our inaugural flight tomorrow is near capacity and pre-sold seats on the Sydney – Gold Coast route have been so strong that we are doubling the amount of flights (from seven weekly to 14 weekly services) from early February 2010,” she says.

“Tiger Airways is thrilled to have brought the Low Fare Revolution to Australia. Since we arrived just over two years ago, we brought healthy competition to the industry and domestic airfares today have never been so low. Right now you can take a family of four on a flight between Sydney and Gold Coast for just $152* one way,” she says.

Fares for the new Sydney – Gold Coast route are on sale now from just $38* one way. Fares between Melbourne and Gold Coast are on sale from $68* and between Adelaide and Gold Coast from just $68*one way.

From early February 2010, when Tiger Airways doubles the flight frequency on the Sydney – Gold Coast route, the airline will provide an additional 262,000 visitor seats annually into and out of the Gold Coast and New South Wales.

Gold Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer Paul Donovan said the time to travel has never been better.

“Gold Coast – Sydney has traditionally been our strongest performing domestic route thanks to ever-increasing passenger demand from both an inbound and outbound perspective. We look forward to welcoming additional summer holiday-makers to Gold Coast as a result of these additional services,” Mr Donovan said.

Gold Coast Tourism CEO, Martin Winter, says “Gold Coast Tourism welcomes Tiger Airways’ commitment to this Sydney - Gold Coast route. It demonstrates the popularity and sustainability of the Gold Coast as an ever evolving destination. No doubt the summer holiday makers will also welcome the service and the value on offer, as the Gold Coast gets ready to turn on another splendid Australian summer.”
