AirAsia X extends low-fare offering to Premium FlatBed guests
AirAsia X, the leading long haul, low fare airline has introduced a new flying experience for guests with enhancements to its long-haul premium and economy cabins.

The London – Kuala Lumpur route, which is serviced by AirAsia X’s Airbus A340 has been revamped with new Premium FlatBed and economy class seats offering improved levels of comfort and ambience.

The Premium FlatBed seats, now flying on the London (STN) to Kuala Lumpur route, have a seat pitch of 60”, and are 20” wide. Once in the full bed position, AirAsia X Premium guests can stretch out to 77”. The new seats also feature universal power sockets, adjustable headrests and built-in personal utilities such as tray table, drink holder, reading light and privacy screens.

The complete Premium Experience comes with Preferred Seat Assignment, Premium Check-in, Priority Boarding, Priority Baggage, 15 kgs Baggage Allowance, Meal & Drinks, pillow and blanket*.

AirAsia X Premium introduces a new level of value for both leisure and business travellers to South East Asia and beyond. In conjunction with the launch of the new Premium FlatBed, AirAsia X is offering guests Premium fares from London (STN) to Kuala Lumpur from as low as GBP649 one-way for online bookings made from 21st June to 4th July, 2010 for the travel period from 1st July to 24th September, 2010. Guests can save more than 50% flying with AirAsia X compared to other legacy carriers on their business class.

Guests opting for economy class seats on AirAsia X will also see a change. The economy seats will feature new ergonomical, reclineable seats at 31” pitch equipped with comfortable adjustable headrests. The airline also decided to move away from traditional black leather and opt for a mix of red and grey, which contributes to brighter cabin ambience.

AirAsia X CEO, Azran Osman-Rani said, “As frequent flyers ourselves, we understand the great need for comfort especially for long-haul flights”.

“AirAsia X is currently flying from UK to Kuala Lumpur and on to long haul destinations in Australia, China, and India in addition to the short-haul destinations available across the Asia Pacific network and beyond. Both business and leisure travellers can now enjoy greater low-fare connectivity than ever before whilst treating themselves to the luxury and comfort of our new Premium FlatBed seats”

Azran adds, ”AirAsia X routes have seen encouraging feedback on the new seats; from our Australian cousins who like a bit of lay flat luxury to our friends in India, China and further afield enjoying the low cost option of flying flat compared to the legacy carriers”

Stansted Airport's Commercial and Development Director, Nick Barton commented, "Stansted is at the heart of low-cost air travel in Europe and we're delighted to be part of this exciting development in long-haul, low-cost, premium flatbed seating.

"AirAsia X is revolutionising air travel connections between Europe, Asia and beyond. A recent survey of passengers departing Stansted showed that two thirds of travellers were connecting on flights from Kuala Lumpur, with over 90% booked on AirAsia's network to destinations including Melbourne, Perth, Singapore and Hong Kong.

"The new premium cabin is an exciting development for long-haul business class passengers, and we look forward to supporting AirAsia X as they continue to develop their services here at Stansted."

AirAsia X is currently upgrading its whole fleet with the new seats in stages for all long-haul flights to Melbourne, Gold Coast, Perth, Taipei, Hangzhou, Tianjin, Chengdu, London, Mumbai and New Delhi. The refurbishment process is expected to be completed by July 2011.

The refurbishment will allow AirAsia X’s A330 to have a seat configuration of 12 flatbed premium seats (28 currently) and 365 economy seats (355 currently). The new configuration for the airline’s A340 is 18 flatbed seats (30 currently) and 309 economy seats (256 currently).
