Jetstar will invest in future growth for Launceston and Tasmanian tourism by increasing existing 3 times daily Melbourne-Launceston services to operate 4 times daily return (from 10 December).
Jetstar will double its Sydney-Launceston return frequencies to twice daily (commencing from 2 December 2010) with the addition of a new conveniently timed early evening return flight.
Jetstar’s new low fare services will inject almost 2500 additional weekly seats for the Launceston market into its year-round schedule in time to support Tasmania’s peak tourism season, whilst greatly enhancing direct flight access from the city for both leisure and business flyers.
Jetstar and Tourism Tasmania are now working closely in partnership to deliver greater levels of cooperative marketing activity to support its growing interstate services into Tasmania.
Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Bruce Buchanan said Jetstar’s future enhanced flight schedule for Launceston underlined its partnership in growth with Launceston Airport, the region’s tourism industry and its long term commitment to further build upon its high number of Tasmanian services.
“These new low fare flights reinforce our commitment to Tasmanian tourism and mark our next sustainable step-up in growth of Jetstar operations in Launceston, a community we have proudly served since 2004 alongside Qantas,” Mr Buchanan said.
“The extra flights along with an improved spread of interstate services across each day provide greater choice and ongoing certainty that Jetstar is a partner in growth with Launceston.”
Jetstar executives were joined by the Tasmanian Tourism Minister Hon. Michelle O’Byrne MP and Launceston Airport in supporting today’s announcement of more interstate services for Launceston.
Tasmanian Minister for Tourism Michelle O’Byrne MP said:”This is fantastic news from Jetstar and clear evidence of the confidence that they have in Tasmania. It’s pleasing to see they are prepared to step in and provide more direct flights into Launceston from our key interstate markets of Melbourne and Sydney.”
Launceston Airport General Manager Pamela Graham said: “The additional services offer greater choice and flexibility for leisure and business travellers alike. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Jetstar to ensure that Launceston Airport is serviced by direct flights to Australia’s busiest hubs at competitive prices.”
