The ability to pay and pre-allocate a seat was introduced in Apr-05, at a cost of GBP5 per sector. This service was enhanced in Nov-05, with the introduction of extra legroom seating on scheduled services, offering 34 inches of legroom, which can be pre-booked at a cost of GBP15 per sector.
According to Monarch, this should be a clear indication to the airline industry that while free seating is the preferred boarding method adopted by many LCCs, it is not liked by an increasing number of passengers who prefer to select their own seat and upgrade to extra legroom before they board.
Monarch operates scheduled services to Spain, Gibraltar and Portugal from Aberdeen, Birmingham, Blackpool, London Gatwick, London Luton and Manchester. The airline offers limited frills, including complimentary daily newspapers, a hot towel service and inflight meals from GBP3.00. The airline offers a loyalty scheme, Vantage Club, and requires no additional payment for checking-in baggage.
