AirTran Airways adopts NetTracer to assist with tracing lost luggage
(CAPA) AirTran Airways has implemented NetTracer, a web-based baggage tracing and claims management system developed by The Owens Group International, to assist with tracing lost luggage.

As the airline industry's first tracing application built from the ground up using Web-based technologies, NetTracer provides a best-of-class search engine to improve baggage tracing and claims processing for both passengers and airline employees. NetTracer is built with the same easy-to-use architecture as top-rated Web sites Yahoo and Google, utilising a Google-like search mechanism and a highly intuitive Web interface. In addition, NetTracer is built with a flexible architecture, making it fully customisable to meet each individual airline's needs.

According to the US Department of Transportation, in the past six months, domestic airlines mishandled, on average, 7.91 bags per 1,000 passengers. While this is a low percentage, industry experts report that mishandled baggage cost the airline industry and their passengers several billions of dollars per year.

As one of the industry's best baggage performers, AirTran Airways came in significantly lower than the industry average, at 4.03 mishandlings per 1,000. By investing in NetTracer, AirTran Airways is demonstrating its commitment to ensuring that its employees have the best tools available for reconnecting passengers with wayward baggage.

"At AirTran Airways, we believe in using all available resources to make sure our passengers arrive in their destination city with their luggage intact," said Tad Hutcheson, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for AirTran Airways. "We are committed to providing top-notch service for our customers, and that includes keeping them connected with their bags. With the help of NetTracer, we will be able to improve on our already stellar performance in the baggage category."

Recognising the high cost of training for the current mainframe baggage tracing systems and the high rate of baggage service employee turnover, The Owens Group began a three-year project to build the airline industry's next generation baggage tracing and claims management system, with the aim to develop a highly intuitive system that is as easy to use as the best sites on the Internet today.
