Southwest scouts Delta-US Airways merger for opportunities

Southwest Airlines reportedly (21-Nov-06) expressed interest in acquiring assets that US Airways and Delta Air Lines would sell to address anti-trust concerns regarding their possible merger.

Southwest is seeking to acquire airport gates, particularly on the US East Coast, classified by Southwest as its least-developed region, as well as aircraft, if they became available. The carrier has reportedly informed both that US Airways and Delta Air Lines of its interests.

Meanwhile, Southwest Airlines announced plans to increase frequency on Philadelphia-Raleigh/Durham service from five to six times weekly in Mar-07.
