GOL reports Feb-09 traffic statistics

BRAZIL : GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes released (06-Mar-09) preliminary passenger statistics for the month of Feb-09. Domestic passenger traffic (RPK) for Feb-09 decreased 5.1% and capacity (ASK) decreased 2.7% year-over-year (vs. Feb-08).

CANADA : WestJet announced (04-Mar-09) February traffic results with a load factor of 82.6%. Revenue passenger miles (RPM) increased 5.5% year over year and capacity, measured in available seat miles (ASM), grew 5.7% over the same period.

Business travel continued its steep decline in December, with passenger numbers travelling on premium tickets down to a level 13.3% lower than the previous year, following November’s 11.5% decline. This precipitous fall has been driven by the abrupt decline in business activity and international trade across the world.

SPAIN : Vueling Airlines increased its January load factor by 5.1 percentage points, growing from 58.9% in 2008 to 64.0% in 2009. Such increase took place in spite of the global economic backdrop. During Jan-09 in keeping with its improvement plan, Vueling operated a fleet of 16 aircraft, 8 aircraft fewer than on a year earlier, concentrating them on serving its profitable routes.

Cebu Pacific retains 45.6% market share

IATA reports 2008 traffic results

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released (29-Jan-09) international scheduled traffic results for both Dec-08 and the full-year. In the month of December global international cargo traffic plummeted by 22.6% compared to Dec-07. The same comparison for international passenger traffic showed a 4.6% drop. The international load factor stood at 73.8%.

Vueling reports Dec-08 traffic

SPAIN : Vueling increased its December load factor by 7.4 percentage points, from 63.6% in 2007 to 71.0% in 2008. Quarterly load factor improvement was 0.7 points. During Dec-08, Vueling kept on applying its improvement programme, reducing costs and cancelling non-profitable routes, by operating 8 fewer aircraft than on a year earlier a 33.3% reduction.

In the 12 months ended Dec-08, the Company carried 3,630,106 passengers with a load factor of 73.4%.The decrease in passengers carried reflects a planned capacity reduction undertaken for the Winter 2008 amidst a weak global economy.

Ryanair carries almost 58 million passengers in 2008

IRELAND : Ryanair announced (06-Jan-09) that it carried almost 58 million passengers in 2008, an increase of over 8 million passengers (18%) on its 2007 traffic. Ryanair carried over 5 million passengers in one month for the first time in May while August was Ryanair’s busiest month with over 5.7 million passengers.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA : Southwest Airlines Co announced that the Company reported 5.3 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in September 2008, down 5.9% year-on-year from the 5.6 billion RPMs flown in September 2007. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 0.8% to 8.4 billion from the September 2007 level of 8.3 billion. The load factor for the month was 63.4%, compared to 67.9% for the same period last year.
