Cebu Pacific starts direct Cebu-Roxas flights

PHILIPPINES : Low-fare airline Cebu Pacific (CEB) will offer a direct service from Cebu to Roxas City starting May 2, 2009. The new service is introduced with a promotional ‘Go Lite’ fare of P488 all-in. The seat sale will run from April 4 to 9 and is valid for travel from 2-May-09 to 31-July-09; and is non-refundable.

AirAsia X seeks aircraft names

AirAsia X wants wordsmiths from every corner of the globe to help them name their planes. The airline currently operates three aircraft and has a further 23 A330s and one A340s on order. It is calling on the global community to come up with some 'X-treme' names as part of a naming competition for the new aircraft.

Lufthansa Supervisory Board approves order for 30 Bombardier CSeries

GERMANY : The Supervisory Board of the Lufthansa Group approved the order for 30 short-haul aircraft in its meeting on 10-Mar-09. The Bombardier CSeries Aircraft will be used by Lufthansa’s subsidiary, Swiss International Air Lines, and will be ready for the fleet as of 2014. The new aircraft will replace the existing Avro RJ100 short-haul aircraft.

AirAsia obtains financing for 15 new Airbus A320-200 aircraft

MALAYSIA : AirAsia has mandated (23-Feb-09) Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays PLC, to finance 15 of its new Airbus A320-200 aircraft. The financing will bring AirAsia's total fleet to 85 aircraft by early 2010, operated by Malaysia-based AirAsia Berhad and its affiliates Indonesia AirAsia and Thai AirAsia.

Air India Express takes delivery of B737-800 aircraft

INDIA : Air India Express inducted (06-Feb-09) another B737-800 aircraft thus increasing the fleet size to 21 aircraft, including seven leased aircraft. With the induction of the new aircraft, Air India Express will further expand its operations. Air India Express will launch its once a week flight to Dubai from Srinagar with this new aircraft with effect from 14-Feb-09.

Ryanair reduces Shannon base

Ryanair confirmed (05-Feb-09) that the Government’s new EUR10 travel tax is already having a damaging impact on forward bookings from 30-Mar next. This EUR10 tourist tax, which has already caused traffic declines in the UK and Holland when previously introduced, is devastating forward bookings in Shannon, because in many cases it exceeds the air fare paid by many passengers on Ryanair’s low fares routes from Shannon.

Cebu Pacific takes delivery of A320

PHILIPPINES : Cebu Pacific took (30-Jan-09) delivery of a new Airbus A320 aircraft from Toulouse, France. This is the second new A320 that arrived this 2009, the first of which was delivered 29-Jan-09. The additional two aircraft will be used to service additional frequencies to Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, and other domestic routes from CEB’s Manila hub.

Air Berlin stated (27-Jan-09) its new B737-700 aircraft became the 35,000th aircraft registered by the LBA (German Federal Aviation Office). The new Boeing 737-700 with the code D-ABLD has been entered in the official German aviation register.

The deferral of the aircraft from its original date of the 01-Oct-08 to a new date of 29-Oct is as a result of the strike by Boeing employees in Seattle which has resulted in the indefinite delay of the shipment of new aircraft to Ryanair.
